by Samantha Curling, Lifestyle Editor, Cape Info SA reporting live from Retirement Expo, Coca Cola Dome, Johannesburg.

This expo was exceptionally well organised for the first of its kind. Access to the expo was surprisingly affordable with ticket prices from R50.00 per person, discounted to R25.00 per retired couple. The exhibitors were well appointed and adequately equipped to deal with the public, and plenty of rest areas allowed for tired feet.

Exhibitors varied from the expected retirement or lifestyle homes for sale to medical assistance, equipment and care, to financial and estate planning. If you are looking at retiring, you would be able to find any information you might need at this one venue.
The retirement homes and lifestyle estates available to buyers ranged from as little as R370, 000.00 for an apartment to well in excess of R5, 000,000.00 for a free-standing, free-hold house in an exclusive mature lifestyle estate. Estates around the country were on show to be seen, after all we may not necessarily want to retire where we currently live. So, basically there was something for everyone.
Cape Info SA chatted to the public about their opinions and general consensus was that of satisfaction.
• Ron & Kate Anderson, Kyalami: “We are just looking at pricing as we need to start thinking about where we are going to retire. So far it has been exactly what we have expected.”
• Anonymous, Northriding: “Thank you to the organisers. I have found much of what I was looking to get from this show.”
• Marilyn and Paul, Edenvale: “So glad to see that there was representation for the underprivileged as well. We intend to give financial assistance where we can, and challenge any corporate out there to do the same.”

Cape Info SA wish the organisors all the best and success for the future of this expo.
